OPINION:

After many unsuccessful attempts to emulate Indiana Jones in the eighties, the advent of the 90 made fashions change and adventure films went into the background. Nobody could, not even close, the adventurous spirit of those Spielberg movies. In 1999, the Universal bet big on a new version of "The Mummy" directed by an almost unknown Stephen Sommers. The director and writer had little resume. Three smaller productions, yes, adventure. "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" , "The Jungle Book" and "Deep Rising" . Special mention should be the latter. Not for its artistic merits but because it is a film that lays the foundation for this outstanding production. Sommers and demonstrates the banter and the sarabande fun without taking seriously anything and is told as a comic is to ride roughshod all laws of reality. "The Mummy" contains all these elements raised to the seventh power. So a viewer does not support the emergence of humor and amazing spectacle, wondering all the time if this or that is absurd, you do not see this movie. Sommers does not fool anyone. All peliculeros effects that occur in this film are put there deliberately by the director. Priceless are the director's commentary in the aftermath (I still can not enjoy the first), which recognizes and explains all the inconsistencies and because they were shot as well.

When I heard the version that was prepared, I thought it was a horror film. After first viewing the trailer I was surprised. It seemed an adventure film eighties with all the digital technology at your fingertips. It was a first step, do a version unlike any previous films had starring the mummy. With the viewing in the dark room left excited. It was curious that after so many failed attempts to approach the adventurous spirit of the famous archaeologist. When no one expected productions of heroes in excavations and exotic places, got a movie that should have been pure terror, to get it. There are many detractors who love both Indiana Jones, that the mere fact of mentioning this movie as a comparison makes you squirm in pain. I'm not suspicious of her professed love the character but that does not stop praising this film as a worthy successor.

The actor chosen to portray Rick O'Connell, charismatic and cool hero, Brendan Fraser was . A priori not seem a very wise choice given the background of the actor in the film. It was not exactly a star, and the film was a blockbuster destined to be a blockbuster. Proved to be one of the great successes of the film. Fraser plays the hero skillfully taken seriously without even a second the character you created. Memorable and sexy, like him from the beginning and carries the weight of the film with ease and naturalness. For the role of the girl was also chosen an unknown at the time, Rachel Weisz . Its role is typical of the girl in trouble and is especially beautiful in the film. The role of the brother went to John Hannah that easily meets and Oded Fehr the role of the man who wants to prevent the wrath of the mummy out. It seems that at any time go from laughter to so many cubs she says. Arnold Vosloo is the villain of the function or vengeful mummy seeks to resurrect his love.

The soundtrack composed by Jerry Goldsmith is superb, as is also the sequel that created Alan Silvestri. Accompanies us throughout the adventure and plunges us into the exotic landscapes and beautiful digitized for the occasion. These visual effects manage to surround the viewer with the beauty of Egypt as well as being used for the creation of the mummy. All adventure film must have some action scenes that are visually spectacular impact. The lifting of sand to bring down the plane is traveling hero anthology and was repeated in the sequel to the Nile water as a protagonist. tribute to Jason and the Argonauts " with the resurrection of the mummies and beetles that devour everything that you throw away are other scenes to remember. The story and characters presented to us by Sommers, who achieved a great direction, is itself a comic film that never takes itself seriously for the enjoyment of those who love the movies to escape. After the magnificent prologue tells the sad story of an Egyptian priest and his lost love, the film leaves for a roller coaster of adventure, humor, romance, terror and action show that does not decline at any time. Pure escapist cinema with a capital.
